Course Goals/Objectives

GEI’s Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) program is designed to train instructors who teach or will teach English to students in non-English-speaking countries.  The Certification Program equips participants with improved knowledge of TESOL with a focus on methods and approaches to teaching pronunciation, writing, reading, listening, and speaking skills. Participants learn TESOL theory and how to create lesson plans for presentation in a classroom. The majority of class time is dedicated to discussions about and demonstrations of effective teaching strategies. The overriding objective is to “teach teachers to teach better.” Participants will get hands-on experience in actual classrooms at the culmination of the program.

Interactive Seminars

GEI’s TESOL Certificate Program has two components.  The first is a series of interactive instructional seminars facilitated by qualified TESOL trainers.  The seminars cover a range of topics including linguistic theories, grammar, pronunciation, teaching and learning strategies, and teaching techniques for specific topics such as reading, writing and speaking.

Practicum

The second component is a practicum inside one of GEI’s English learning centers. The practicum will allow participants the opportunity observe experienced teachers first-hand in a genuine classroom environment.  The practicum is designed to give students supervised practical application of the theory and techniques they have studied. They will then create and execute lessons with real students to utilize their skills and knowledge and gain practical experience.

Certification

Participants with receive their GEI TESOL Certificate upon completing both the seminar and practicum components.

Instructors

GEI has enlisted highly experienced and qualified TESOL instructors.  Each instructor holds at least a Masters in TESOL and has years of teaching experience.
