GEI hosts Beijing Education Commission’s visit to the Carolinas 2014-11-20
From November 16th to 19th, GEI hosted a delegation from the Beijing Education Commission to visit the Carolinas and boost its collaboration with South Carolina by facilitating the MoU agreement signing with the Senate Education Committee.
During the one-day visit to North Carolina, delegates from the Beijing Education Commission were introduced to Dean Bill McDiarmid from the UNC-Chapel Hill, School of Education; Bjorn Hennings, Director of Carolina Center for Educational Excellence; Tom Ross, President of UNC GA; and Leslie Boney, Vice President for International, Community, and Economic Engagement at UNC GA. The delegation of Beijing Education Commission also met Bailian Li, Vice Provost for International Affairs at North Carolina State University.
In South Carolina, the delegation from Beijing Education Commission met Mick Zais, South Carolina State Superintendent Of Education, and signed the MoU agreement with the Senate Education House. The delegation also visited the University of South Carolina (USC), and met Harris Pastides, President of USC; Michael Amirdis, Provost of USC; and Dr. Paul Allen Miller, Vice Provost and Director, International Programs at USC. Their last stop at USC was to Darla Moore School of Business, where the delegation met and talked with Peter Brews, Dean of the school. On the second day in South Carolina, the delegation visited two reputable local high schools, River Bluff High School, and Spring Hill High School.
